What is Structured Water?

Water is one of the most ubiquitous substances on Earth and probably the most taken for granted. You’re probably well aware of water being called H20, and the three forms being defined as solid, liquid and vapor. However, water has a 4th form called H3O2 which may also be called structured water, gel water or vortexed water.

One of the leading researchers on the topic of H3O2 is Dr. Gerald Pollack from the University of Washington. In his book, The Fourth Phase of Water: Beyond Solid, Liquid and Vapor, Dr. Pollack presents structured water research on what H3O2 water is, how structured water is created, and how structured water systems work.

For as much as science is known for innovation, scientists are notoriously slow to change their opinions. In his book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Thomas Kuhn, a philosopher, examines what it takes for scientists to change their minds.

How Science Changes Minds

Kuhn explains that scientific change is the result of various stages of a paradigm, or belief system changes:

  • Phase 1 – No consensus on a theory, no common body of facts and no consensus on terminology or testing methodology.
  • Phase 2 – A scientist or group of scientists may begin to question a commonly held belief. Progress is made exposing commonly held beliefs, but not necessarily explaining anomalies within existing belief systems or scientific paradigms.
  • Phase 3 – When anomalies appear over and over and can’t be accounted for the scientific community enters a crisis period trying to resolve the discrepancies in long held beliefs.
  • Phase 4 – Is a paradigm shift or scientific revolution. This is the phase where new information forces underlying assumptions to be re-examined and a new way of thinking, new beliefs are established.
  • Phase 5 – A new belief system and paradigm takes over. Scientists will return to “normal” science in terms of solving puzzles and being innovative, but within the new paradigm.

One very dramatic example of this phenomenon is very clear with research on ulcers. In 1983, two Austrian doctors discovered that ulcers were caused by the Helicobacter pylori (bacteria). Prior to that time, doctors and scientists believed stomach ulcers were caused by spicy foods, stress, smoking and a number of other environmental factors. Scientists and doctors ignored this information for many years and did not prescribe antibiotics for ulcers. It was a taboo to question the commonly held beliefs about ulcers. Again, no one wants to be wrong or appear stupid, espcially doctors or scientist who might have been inadvertently causing ulcer patients to suffer unecesarilly.

Finally, in 2005, enough research had been amassed about the true cause of ulcers for the information to get recognized with the Nobel Prize at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden where Dr. Barry J. Marshall, 54, and Dr. J. Robin Warren, 68, were acknowledged for their discovery. It took o

Dr. Masaru Emoto

“Water is the mirror that has the ability to show us what we cannot see. It is the blueprint for our reality, which can change with a single, positive thought. All it takes is faith, if you're open to it”

Dr. Masuro Emoto was a pioneer in water research. He’s best known for his experiments  using high speed photography to show the molecular structure of water as it freezes under a microscope. He showed how polluted water, or water exposed to a negative environment was distorted and assymmetrical. Water that was exposed to loving words in a positive environment showed beautiful, complex snowflake patterns. Dr. Emoto believed that water could be imprinted by things it was exposed to and that water retained memory from those exposures.

John Stuart Reid is an acoustics engineer studying cymatics, the science of sound. He’s carrying forward some of Dr. Emoto’s ideas showing how sound can make an imprint on water and how sound waves affect blood. Cymatics is not new. Leonardo Da Vinci and Galileo did some work in cymatics.  However, Mr. Reid is merging and expanding ancient concepts with 21st century concepts from Dr. Emoto, to forge new frontiers in scientific research.

It Takes Courage to be a Scientific Pioneer

There can be a high price for being ahead of your time or going against conventional ideas.  Many scientists, like Dr. Emoto and doctors also fall into the category of being unappreciated or unacknowledged for their achievements during their lifetime.

  • William Harvey was a physician in the 17th century that correctly believed that blood circulated through the human body via the heart. Up until 1628 when Dr. Harvey published his work, the belief was that the liver created blood from food and then sent it through the left side of the heart and lungs. Dr. Harvey was ostracized by his peers and shunned by the scientific community, who preferred to believe a flawed theory that was discovered 1,500 years earlier.
  • Gregor Mendel discovered what we now consider to be the basis of genetics; identifying dominant and recessive genes. Up until Mendel’s time, it was believed that traits were passed down from generation to generation and averaged, or mixed together. Mendel died in 1884, but it wasn’t until the beginning of the 20th century, several decades later, when his ideas came to be recognized as valid science.
  • Before the 19th century, doctors weren’t aware that infectious diseases could be spread by poor sanitation. Dr. Ignaz Semmelweiss was a Hungarian discovered that when doctors and midwives washed their hands in chlorine-lime solutions, the mortality rate went down to 1 or 2% from 4 – 10%.  Dr. Semmelweiss’ peers wouldn’t believe that their uncleanliness caused diseases and death and his theory was rejected by the medical world. Decades later, Louis Pasteur and others proved that Dr. Semmelweis’ theory was correct and did save lives.

How Structuring Water Changes the Water Molecules

Structured water changes the energy of water, like a charged battery, and revitalizes water into a state that is more easily absorbed by your body.

When water is structured, it is reshaped into natural, geometric patterns through various types of devices. The difference in the composition isn’t visible to the naked eye. Water’s most well-known forms are solid, liquid and vapor. Now we know about the 4th phase of water, H32O or gel water, like the water in our cells or fruits and vegetables. Although it’s called gel water, that doesn’t mean it’s thick, just silkier or softer than H2O.

Water isn’t the only thing in nature that changes form though. Consider that the chemical composition of diamonds and coal is carbon. However, because of the bonding angles the two substances have dramatically different appearances. We can clearly see the difference between ice and vapor, or liquid and ice. However, the molecular structure of H32O needs to be seen with a microscope.

The following images were produced by an Independent laboratory in Germany that analyzed Structured Water.

The images show evidence of a change in bonding angles much like what we see with diamonds and coal.

Structured Water under the Microscope

The conclusions of the lab that performed this analysis, Hagalis AG, are that the structured water:

    • has different hydrogen bonding angles than unstructured water
    • has increased life force energy
    • increased bio-availability of trace minerals and elements
    • neutralized all toxins.

Structures change properties vastly more easily and dramatically than chemistry changes them.

Dr Gerald Pollack - H3O2 and The 4th Phase of Water

Dr. Gerald Pollack, a bioengineering research scientist, is the winner of the Emoto Peace Prize for his research on structured water. He discovered H3O2, the 4th Phase of Water beyond liquid, solid and vapor. H3O2 is a state in between a solid and a liquid, slightly thicker than H2O. Dr. Pollack also coined the term EZ Water or exclusion zone water to describe how water in the human body can filter out, exclude, even the tiniest particles. That means, your body has an intuitive filtering system built right into it.

Scientists choose their areas of research mostly based on curiosity from things they observe and question. In Dr. Pollack’s case, he’s been studying muscle physiology and water for well over 20 years. He discovered that water is a powerful repository of energy in muscle contractions. Water can have a charge like a battery and absorbs energy from light. Consequently, water can get energy the same way a plant does, through a process similar to photosynthesis. This shows that water is much more dynamic and adaptive to its environment than previously thought.

Dr. Pollack’s experiments proving that water has a Fourth Phase are certainly revolutionary, but not necessarily new. Over a century ago, Sir William Hardy believed in a Fourth Phase of Water. Other authors and scientists over the years have referred to an “order, structure” or “crystalline” state of water which answers everyday questions from why gelatin holds water or why teapots whistle. The water changes shape at a molecular level which causes it to change form.

The Energy in Water is Scientifically Measurable

Gas Discharge Visualization (GDV) is a collection of photographic processes used to capture images of electrical discharges. Through this process variances in everyday substances, such as water, can be measured. The GDV process can measure the energy of water.

In the image with the black background (Fig. 1), the increased brightness is indicative of increased energy. Notice how Filtered Water and natural Spring Water have significantly less energy than water structured by a structuring device. Structuring water can increase the energy by up to 83%. This increased energy has a very beneficial impact on your body at a cellular level.

Fig. 1

Fig. 2 shows how drinking Structured Water impacts the human body’s energy. The image on the left is before drinking Structured Water and on the right, after. People who drink Structured Water experience a minimum 10% increase in their energy and for some it is as high as 40%. Notice the image on the left is broken up and uneven compared to the image on the right.

Dr. Marcel Vogel

“When you put a minute trace, parts per million into water, of silica, the silica is…the nucleating site of water to start structuring around…”  Dr. Marcel Vogel

Even with this proof you might still be skeptical about structured water because you can’t see it change, like seeing water change to ice or vapor.

Dr. Marcel Vogel was a top research scientist for 27 years for IBM. His life’s passion was expressed through the use of scientific instruments. He spent over 1 year of his life focused on experiments to determine or deny the existence of Structured Water. Using Ultra Violet Spectral Photometry he concluded:

  • Evidence of structuring in the form of visual bands in the range of 3000-4000 angstrom units
  • Structured Water is different than bulk water including that it stores energy
  • One drop of Structured Water raises the energy level of a container of liquid instantly
  • When water molecules link up in structure, they form a consciousness which is to say that water molecules organize themselves and store information
  • Water is the future of medicine as it can be programmed to have desired health giving energies.

The Hydration Foundation (HyFo)

The Hydration Foundation (HyFo) is a collective of doctors, scientists and thought leaders that are forging new territories in the area of hydration. Led by Gina Bria, HyFo is the leading authority on education about the benefits of optimal hydration from using structured water.  Restoring energy and cellular functioning through proper hydration is the single biggest factor in creating health and well being. The health benefits of structured water are not as much about the volume of the water that you drink, but the energetic state of the water.

The Hydration Foundation has been featured on or in The New York Times, Thrive Global,  NPR, CBS, Oprah Magazine, TedX, Goop and by Dr. Mercola.  Some of the participating doctors are: Dr. Ben Edwards, Dr. Christine Northrup, Dr. Gerald Pollack, Dr. Dana Cohen, Dr. Tom Cowan, Dr. Zach Bush, and Dr. Linda Lancaster.

Many of the doctors associated with The Hydration Foundation practice Integrative Medicine, which is a more holistic approach to health than conventional medicine. Rather than simply treating symptoms, Integrative Medicine seeks to find the root cause of illnesses and disease. A growing number of doctors and health care providers are looking at chronic dehydration as the root cause of many health conditions. And they’re being bold enough to say that some solutions to complicated health problems may simply require proper hydration.
